Blog post Bouillabaisse! When I see something cool that I think might be blog worthy I drop the link in a folder fro safe keeping or until I have nothing to say then need to post about something. for some reason I just need to post sometimes. So here are a few items and thoughts that I have been sitting on over the past week.
I'll start with a piece of gear I thought was worth passing on. The BrentBasket by Faris Elmasu. At first glance it looks like another piece of Swedish mod garbage but then I saw how well it held a six pack. It seems pretty versatile and stylish, but those are two things that probably don't add up to longevity, but who knows.
Speaking of beer, I was at The Royal Mile in Wheaton on Saturday to watch soccer when I happened upon Loose Cannon. A hoppy beer with hoppy flavor what has a hoppy finish that leaves you feeling hoppy, but not too hoppy. Seriously though, this beer tastes great and has a citrusy herby flavor going that is quite good.
"wonderfully drinkable" indeed
Next up is Camp Bacon. I read about this in USA TODAY and was stunned... and hungry.
Camp Bacon is located in Ann Arbor Michigan and boasts tons of bacon related activities and games for today's bacon lover, and yes, there's a video.
Thinking about camp always takes me back to those warm summer days, not a care in the world, sitting in my house watching Meatballs over and over again. Ah... the good ole days.
Just to make this blog bouillabaisse complete, here's a video that I can't stop watching.
I would just like to revisit last weekend for a moment. A few really wonderful things happened that I didn't mention on Monday. First off, I got a plug from the Bike Snob of New York City for some quick photoshoppery for which I am grateful . It's a big internet out there and I need all the help I can get.
Secondly I traded some home made Bacon Vodka for a jar of Baconnaise.
This is a good trade where both parties prosper. Not unlike the symbiotic relationship between a Cleaner Shrimp and Moray Eel, or the Oxpecker (tee hee) and the African Buffalo, or maybe most like an alcoholic and a meatoholic.
After 3 weeks in the closet, freezing, and pouring the vodka through several coffee filters I was finally ready to test it out. The initial taste was "baconny" for sure but it quickly went away leaving me with vodka. Hoping to extend the "boconny" stage of the experience I added more bacon to the jar and will let it sit for a few more weeks. Perhaps I didn't use enough bacon the first time. Stay tuned!
A few months back I bounced a post from McAuliflower detailing her venture into meat flavored alcohol. In a comment she dared me to make a batch myself and I admit for a few months there I was scared. Then a few months after that I was merely cautious, and for these last few months I have been pensive. Now, I am happy to say that I accept this dare and after 6 months and five days I have sprung into action like a hungry badger!
Per McAuliflower's directions: 1. Cut a hole in a box Cook some bacon.
2. Eat some of the bacon. (tee hee) 3. Put the rest of the bacon in a clean mason jar. 4. Fill jar with vodka. 5. Put the jar in a dark cabinet for 3 weeks.I also took her advice of throwing in a pinch of ground black pepper.
So now we wait... and daydream about the many possibilities of bacon flavored vodka. I think the first thing I will try is a mixed drink where I salt the rim of a highball glass with smoked salt. Maybe heating up some maple syrup to mix in as well.... yeesssssssssss.
Post your bacon vodka ideas and I will try out the best one.
Stay tuned and thanks again to McAuliflower for the inspiration.
Every once and a great while an individual comes along that redefines zeitgeist, a true mench that pushes the spirit of innovation forward and thus we all benefit as a society. Today that individual is MATTY SALLIN. Ole Matty boy isn't taking life lying down, but when he has to, it's to the sweet smell of fresh cooked bacon. Matty came up with an alarm clock that will wake you up to that most lubricious of odors... sizzling bacon. Everybody now... "MMM BAAAAACON". With the Wake n' Bacon alarm clock and shot of Bacon Vodka in the AM there is nothing I can't accomplish. Thanks to Mary for the hook. Happy Friday Everybody!
Say it again, this time slower. Baaaaaaaaacon VVVVVVVVVodka. It's starting to sink in a little isn't it. At first you recoil, but now you're curious aren't you. My pal hooked me with this link and I thought I would pass it along.
