MacAskill Solo Ride

I like Danny MacAskill. He talks funny... he bikes funny too.

Here's my favorite of his videos.

Quick note: The Jezabels, who do the second song on this video will be in DC at the Rock and Roll Hotel on June 18th. Should be pretty good.

Bike To Work Day 2013

I usually try and make it to the Bethesda pit stop but this year I made it to Silver Spring while taking my daughter to school.

We were running late and the guy with the camera caught me off guard so I did a good amount of blathering.

Meanwhile, three years earlier...

It's crazy to see how much my girl has grown. I think I must be doing ok in the father department if can watch her growth and development (as well as the graying of my facial hair) in the pro-bike culture movies she's... HOLY SHIT! Am I wearing the same god damned clothes!?  Jesus.

As usual it was a great event not matter the pit stop. Props to the sponsors and everyone involved.

834 Miles Per God Damn Hour

When I was a kid I spent a lot of my time staring at this image of Joseph Kittinger skydiving from the edge of space. There was something truly mind blowing about this image. I never saw any footage of the jump or heard anything about it anywhere else. I just had this photo... to stare at.

Fast forward thirty something years to yesterday when Felix Baumgartner did it live in HD for me and my 4 year old girl to watch.

We both watched with jaws dropped as Baumgartner reached 834 miles per god damn hour. My daughter was totally engaged, asking lots of questions and making some pretty keen observations (for a 4 year old). After he landed we exchanged high fives and fist bumps and danced around the kitchen yelling about how great science was.

To make it even cooler Joseph Kittinger was leading the ground crew. Buh BAM!

Having said all of that, my daughter and I wont be drinking a red bull any time soon.

PSA: A Few Puffs Of Weed A Day

Remember kids a few puffs of weed a day will take the edge off, but if something really bad happens you'll still freak out. That's why I always opt for a few more.

Bike Commuting Can Be Dangerous

Statistically your pretty safe biking to work on roads heavily traveled by automobiles but that doesn't mean things can't go wrong. See the video below of a perfect example of how a group of fellow cyclist, biking to work, were taken out by an driver no doubt engaged in various types of electronic communications.

NYC Ticketing PSA: Stay In Your Lane

I watched this 5 times already. I'm going to bed now and expect to watch it several more over breakfast.

Does that mean if you want to take your bike into a building you have to carry your bike from the bike like to the door or just hope there is something heavy to lock it to in the bike lane.

Chuck Brobot by BZA

I think BZA really captured his "ChuckBrownness" in this piece. Check it out at Busboys and Poets, 6/13/2011, 6:00 to 8:00pm.

For those of you not familiar with the DC icon Chuck Brown see below.

Urban Downhill: Chilean Bad Ass

This came via The Pedal Pushers Club. DC has neither the hills or the hipness to pull something like this off.

This one is even more insane,

Wednesday Morning On The Capital Crescent Trail

The trail is looking a lot better than it did a few days ago but there are still rough patches. This is video of the stretch between Jones Mill Rd. and Connecticut Ave.

This was the roughest part of the trail north of Bethesda. Aside from a few icy patches the rest of the trail is ready to ride.

Capital Crescent Trail Conditions And CLIF Bar Love

If you commuters out there are wondering how the Capital Crescent is doing and if it's ok to ride again; here are today's conditions.

The Montgomery County Parks Department needs to invest in a zamboni. The trail is still mostly covered in very hard bumpy ice. The ice tires help a lot on the LHT but dammit I wish they were fatter. I'm tempted to ride my mountain bike to cushion the ride.

Hope this helps.

I got a care package yesterday from Lisa over at Clif Bar. I'm trying not to be such a whore but I love the crap out of their bars and am looking forward to trying out all the other crap they make.

Feel free to share your experiences with anything pictured above.

Friday, you magnificent bastard...

Snow Ride Video!

I shot some video on Wednesday of the my morning commute on the Capital Crescent Trail. What little snow there was, was (was was) sticky so I didn't have any problems on my touring tires (like I did last year).

When I got to work I found a deal on some Innova studded 700x35s.

There are a little thinner than my Continental Contacts but hopefully that will make them better in the deep stuff. I got them mainly because the were cheap as hell and the reviews said they were decent. It's like they were made just for me. I'll do a review after I break them in a bit.
