Standing Room Only: A Bike Seat Show

A friend of mine has a piece in Standing Room Only at the Workhouse Arts Center. I support art and bike seats support me so this seems like a win.

Standing Room Only: A Bike Seat Show’ is an exhibit of customized bike seats which displayed from April 20-June 16, 2013 at the Workhouse Arts Center.

Standing Room Only: A Bike Seat Show’ is an painted bike seats on custom made stands. The show will be displayed from April 20 to June 16 of 2013 in the new Vulcan Community Arts Gallery in the Workhouse Arts Center. Twenty artists have been invited to participate mostly from the Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Richmond areas.

The expression ‘Standing Room Only’ means that there is only space at an event to stand because all chairs are occupied or none are available, playing into the dynamic of seating. Because of its use, the seat is seldom seen when riding, in this show it will become the focal point for the viewer. A saddle has limitless possibilities for transformation and yet is also easily accessible to the viewer and relatable to current popular culture.

Holidaze 2010: Bike Gear Cheer DIY

Once again I have a prolonged holiday cold which has kept me off the bike (and the blog) for weeks. To combat the doldrums I've turned to the "Holiday Spirits" to pull me through. After consuming a few glasses of said spirits I made this ornament for a tree decorating party I attended this weekend.

It's pretty straight forward. I butchered two semi-worn cassettes I had laying around and got my little girl to help me paint the bottom on to look like a wreath. Then I tied it all together with picture frame wire.

Holidayed Bitches

PS. Any home cold remedies are welcome. The wackier the better.

My New BFF

I just got tickets to the DC Bicycle Film Fest and I am pretty pumped. As anyone who lives here knows the metro area (and the east coast for that matter) is pretty dry when it comes to main stream bike related happenings. Slowly, event promoters are warming to the DC area with the events like NAHBS coming to Richmond in February and smaller events like the BFF. Velocultre seems to be blossoming in DC and that's a good thing for everyone. As cyclists, we need to support these events when they show up, encouraging veloculture in our fair city. Now if we could only get the Tour de Fat to show up we'd really be legit.

Friday Artwork

These come to us via TWGE. It's common knowledge that since the dawn of Flash, the animated gif has become the pager of the web graphics world. In a truly inspirational move the folks at Three Frames have revived this relic of the 90s and created something great. The idea is the replay a scene from a movie using 3 frames in a gif animation.

This creates some very cool effects but often just makes people look like their humping.

Like A Garbage Truck, Dropped Off The Empire State Building

Translation: Tell em' Large Marge Sent You...

Just a little creative outlet.  Here is a bike shop design I did in memory of Alice Nunn as Large Marge.
