Bike Commuters Harassed By Police

We all remember the video of the cyclist being checked by the NYC police officer during a critical mass ride. This video shows just how far the cops will go to harass cyclist.  Scenes like this are becoming all to common and something needs to be done about it.

Monday PSA: Will You Be Here Tomorrow?

There is no audio for this informational film and it's probably better that way.

Be safe out there people...

Update: A friend has informed me that there is audio only in the left side. I was unaware as my left headphone is broken. I kind of like watching this without audio.  I highly suggest muting the video and putting this on in the background...

Wildlife Tuesday

I saw this pair of Wood Ducks this morning in Sligo Creek just across from the golf course. There is a little bridge I cross every morning where Malards congregate in the winter time. In the early spring a pair of Wood Ducks shows up at the bridge from god knows where. They are much more cautious then the Malards and usually will not let you get close enough for a good photo but I lucked out.

Here is a shot of the morels I found on Sunday doing what they do best.

Lean in close...  closer...  you can smell them can't you?
I dare you to click the photo.

Shroom Hunting And Custom Headwear

Yesterday I took my daughter mushroom hunting. We stumbled around the woods for two hours with nothing to show for it so we cut our losses and went home. Later in the day when out walking with my wife we lucked upon these fresh morels! I sauteed these lovelies in butter, garlic, and parsley they tasted amazing. Even better when dried morels are $149.99 a pound and Whole Paycheck(Foods).

Morel Hunting Tips:
  -  They are only around for a few weeks in April
  -  If you are in central eastern USA as I am look around under Tulip Poplars the morning after a rain
  -  Keep the mushrooms you find in a mesh bag with lots of air flow. NOT in a plastic bag as they will turn to mush pretty quickly.
  -  Know your false morels.
  -  For more info go here

On a less scrumptiously delicious note, my custom Walz cycling cap came in last week. "Large Marge Sent Me..." embroidered on the side as a nod to my faux bike shop design.

Monday Out...

Product Review: New Bike Utility Cargo Basket

I have been wrestling with the problem of how to carry more cargo on my bike enabling me to do more errands that otherwise would be done with a car. Yesterday I found a product that will lessen my motor vehicle dependency even more. It's the New Bike Utility Cargo Basket.

It installed easily to the Ultimate Cross Check using zip ties. It has already solved several of my cargo quandaries such as where do I put my sandwich? In a backpack or pannier the bread and turkey separate causing a hellacious mess.

And if I'm still hungry I can double back and pick up some fruit.

Now I always know where my wallet and keys are. After I lock up my bike I don't have to wonder where they are. They're back on my bike... in my New Bike Utility Cargo Basket where I left them!

Take a look at the New Bike Utility Cargo Basket in action!

Finished my sandwich, now it's time to bike home and get some fruit!

Soon to be available in anodized purple.

Now go out there and give this weekend the business.
